Committee for Corporate Social Responsibility

Chaired by Kimmo Mettälä, LMR Attorneys Ltd.

Mission and goals

To remain attractive to top employees and relevant in a global economy, corporations have to carry out objectives that go beyond business and maintain a strong sense of responsibility to society at large. The Committee for Corporate Social Responsibility gives member companies an opportunity to collaborate on initiatives that further social, economic and environmental awareness and betterment.

The committee ensures that the Chamber's official position is represented in pertinent decision-making bodies and focuses on developing relationships with the leading players of the field. One of the committee’s most notable initiatives is an outreach program that familiarizes international students with Finnish corporate life and connects companies to this rich pool of talent. Our yearly Columbus Day program with Haaga-Helia University of Applied Sciences allows international students to learn the ins and outs of the Finnish job market and network with AmCham member companies.

Message from Committee Chair:

“The CSR Committee wanted to start with an area in which AmCham member companies could use their particular assets to make a real contribution. Looking at the predicted scarcity of skilled employees that will be needed in the Finnish economy in the coming decades, we realized that we were well situated to increase the immigration-based labor force. In the future we would also like to get involved in the environmental arena and explore the underlying ethical considerations for corporate responsibility. The concept of a responsible business is, in my view, an integral part of the Western ideals underpinning democratic societies. It’s important to keep that in mind when considering the contributions of American and Finnish companies in the global marketplace.”
